During the initial home visit, family members will be interviewed regarding the specific behaviors that will be targeted for change. After which, direct observation may be deemed necessary and carried out either during the initial meeting or a follow up meeting. The focus will be on determining the cause of and appropriate interventions for behaviors targeted for change.
Once the assessment is complete an individualized treatment plan will be created to address behaviors of concern.
Treatment Recommendations may fall under 1 of 2 models
Both models of treatment may include one or all of the following: Direct care by the BCBA, parent & community caregiver training, consultation to ensure continuity of care, and discharge planning.
Caretakers will learn how to effectively handle problem behaviors when they arise, prevent or reduce problem behaviors, and teach the child or adolescent appropriate replacement behaviors through detailed explanations, modeling, practice, and feedback.
Successful treatment outcomes are determined by the caretaker’s full commitment to keeping weekly appointments, consistently following treatment plans, and being active participants in their child’s behavior change.
